Junior Golf Update

The temperature is rising, the nights are drawing out, the course is in good shape and I hope you are getting time on the course to practice.

Here’s an update on a few junior golfing matters to whet your appetite:

Parental Consent Forms – if you want to participate in any of the organised activities we must have completed signed parental consent forms. These are in the junior handbook, available at the club house or you can email me and I will send you one

Summer Coaching – We have been able to secure £300 of funding for free junior member coaching during the summer holidays. This will be in groups of 4 or 6 and tailored to your experience levels. Beginners will be on the range and the practice greens, with handicap golfers getting time on the course (or the long and short game tuition if you prefer). Altogether we have been able to accommodate over 100 hourly sessions. I will communicate full details at the end of June on how to book and dates / times

Friday Night Course Experience Sessions – In another 3 weeks or so we aim to start the on course familiarisation for beginners. Our “senior” juniors will host newer golfers on the course giving tips on etiquette and coaching. This is a turn up at 6pm and join in event. You may use the session to submit Club Handicap cards

Club handicaps – check out your junior handbook for instructions on how to get one of these. They are a great introduction to handicap golfing for those not quite up to getting a full CONGU 28 handicap yet

Lost Property – I’ve got a good selection of caps, club head covers, some shoes in various sizes and some wedges if you’ve lost one! All lost property is given to the juniors for fund raising so it may be worth a try

Second Hand Equipment – If you would like to advertise on the junior board or sell equipment you have grown out of let me know. I have 2 sets of clubs for juniors in fair second hand condition. Meridian irons, woods and putter  for 7 – 9 year olds and Ping Moxie irons,  woods and putter for 8-11 year olds. Both come with bags. Let me know if you are interested.

Finally on the competition front it’s a mixed bag – a win in the K Smith Trophy at home to Richmond Park to get through to round 2, and a loss at home to the Norfolk in the Bass Trophy (league). We have a relatively small squad this year to chose from so if you are interested in representing the club and have a full handicap put your name down. Also for the CONGU handicappers don’t forget on 28 May it’s the Bawburgh Open. Make home advantage pay and get your entry in to Chris Ingram sharp!

If there is any help or assistance you need with your golfing then please do let me know. Best wishes

INFORMATION FOR NEW OR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS FOLLOWS:

A Junior Handbook is available from the Club Reception on request. This provides all you need to know about junior golfing at Bawburgh.

Welcome to the Bawburgh Golf Club Juniors. We aim to provide a safe, friendly environment where juniors can enjoy and improve their golf. We are proud to be one of only 2 clubs in Norfolk accredited with GolfMarks award for leading junior facilities. The club provides excellent course access and playing rights for junior members with a recognised child protection policy in place. A junior handbook explaining everything is provided to all new members. Prosepective members can have a soft copy for information on request. Combined with a generous subscription structure (see membership application section) this is one of the best junior packages available. Whether you want to play with your friends and family, have access to free tuition, get a Club or CONGU handicap, or become involved in competitions, the organising team will be pleased to help where they can. If you have any queries please contact Greg Gladwell on 01603 810329 or gregory.gladwell@tinwyorld.co.uk

We currently have 55 junior members, 20 with CONGU handicaps, 4 with Club handicaps., and a good representation at all County junior age groups To achieve junior membership you must be under 18 at the time of paying your membership subscription. Bawburgh allows CONGU handicap holding members to participate in club competitions enjoying the same playing rights as adult members. To get a CONGU handicap you need to submit 3 cards, played from the yellow tees, for consideration. These need to be signed by another handicap holding player. For more information speak to one of the Club Stewards. If you would like to obtain a Club handicap you can contact Greg Gladwell for advice. Again 3 signed cards will be required clearly marked to show whether they have been completed on the blue, red or yellow tees. Cards of 132 or less will be considered as the Club handicap range is 29 to 54.

COMPETITIONS: The club participate in the County interclub junior league competition, host its own Bawburgh Junior Open, and have a Junior Club Championship where CONGU, Club and non handicap members are welcomed. There is also a Junior Knockout competition for CONGU handicappers throughout the summer.

During the summer months we have Friday evening coach and play sessions. Older juniors accompany newer members on the course to mark handicap cards and provide advice over 9 holes. Watch the notice board for more details.

Chris Potter has an excellent range of junior golf equipment available at the pro shop and his team will be pleased to offer their expert advice. Junior Academy sessions with structured coaching facilities are available on Saturdays 9 - 10 and 2 -3 at Bawburgh Driving Range. For £2.50 you get a generous bucket of balls and tuition from the resident professionals. Clubs can be provided for beginners.
