Ladies SectionThe Ladies Section at Bawburgh currently has just under 100 members. Most of the competitions – both qualifying and fun – are played on Sundays and Mondays to accommodate the availability of as many participants as possible. Captain’s CornerNot a bad start to 2008 for the Ladies section with good attendance when the weather has permitted!We won our 1st round match of the Mail on Sunday competition, beating Diss 3½-1½ but were not so lucky in the 2nd round against Sheringham on what must have been one of the wettest and windiest days of the year so far when we lost 4-1. Congratulations to Linda Foulger & Mary Gamble who beat Weston Park in the 1st round of the Daily Mail Foursomes. STOP PRESS - they have now played the 2nd round at Rookery Park and, after a very close contest, emerged winners by 1up - with the last putt on the 18th green! Good luck for a good draw and a good result in the next round. Well done to our Gillieson team who were also successful in a tough match against Wensum Valley and we are awaiting news of their opponents for the next round. We have just played our first ever Scratch League fixture, away at Swaffham and despite the big difference in handicaps, our team of Jane Rumball, Shirley Jones and Tracy Reynolds did us proud. Although we lost, all three matches were closely contested. Well done Ladies! Oh yes..mustn’t forget to mention the brilliant win we had against our Veterans section. Thanks to the 3 Men who played as Ladies (you know who you are!) and thank you to the Men for taking the 4½ - 3½ defeat so graciously! League matches start soon….watch this space for results! Here's Di's summary of the Past Captains day ( reading this, I'm already looking forward to the chance of playing next year!!) "It was a cold and sunny day for the Norfolk Past Captains at Caister on 14th April. Bawburgh had four representatives, Brenda Mace, Linda Foulger, Penny Banks and myself, there were 64 ladies in all. We were paired up prior to arrival and I was lucky enough to get Sarah Steventon from Cromer, who played with her new driver for the first time. Greensomes was the format. The winners had 44 points and we came 7th on countback , so got the club named in the prizes. Each year we try to organise a number of friendly matches which allow players to gain experience in competitive match play without the same pressures which apply to league and knock-out fixtures. All are welcome to put their names forward for selection.
