2012 COMPETITION RESULTS
04-FEB-2012 - MAIL ON SUNDAY TEAM EVENT
Bawburgh were drawn away to Weston Park in this annual national competition. Unfortunately conditions were not great and, on a cold February morning, hard ground and temporary greens were the only way this match could be played before the deadline day. Given the conditions the course played well but so, to our cost, did the opposition. Our team of Gary Clarke, Lewis Daniels, Darren Roope, Paul Took & Andrew Gooch fought well but only Gary could half his match and a result of 1/2 to 4 & 1/2 leaves us dreaming for another year! Well done to those who turned out and good luck to Weston Park in the next round.
29-JAN-2012 - MUDDLED MEDAL TEAM
In an unusually modified event, over 90 men took to the course in teams of 4 and early morning frost gave way to glorious fairways and greens. The intriguing scoring was based upon whether any team member could get a nett birdie; if one did, the lowest 2 scores were taken to make a 2-digit score (ie 34) but, if no-one did, then the highest 2 scores were used (ie 87). To give you an idea of what total to expect, any team in which every player scored nett par on every hole would score 792.
With that in mind, congratulations go to Keith High, Paolo Payne, Jem Campling & Richard Gosling who scored a very impressive 753 points, closely followed by Mel Humphries, Roy Payne, Chris Haydock & Ray Bussey with 775 points. The format of the event was enjoyed by those who took part but, it was agreed, similar events in the future will need to be modified further to ensure a faster round!
25-JAN-2012 - JANUARY MIDWEEK STABLEFORD
Competitions in January are always hard but, with the course conditions & weather both being good for the time of year, 44 players ventured out for the first Midweek Stableford of 2012. In Division 1 (h/c 14 & under), it was Paul Golder (9) who followed up his success last Sunday with another victory, scoring 35 points and winning only on count-back from Mick Waterhouse (13). In Division 2 (h/c 15 & above), Nik Hare (18) also scored 35 points to win by just one point from Alan Morton (15).
22-JAN-2012 - JANUARY MONTHLY MEDAL
Played in extremely tough windy conditions, the first Sunday Monthly Medal of 2012 saw more than 70 players battle against the elements. Most struggled but there were a few credable scores. In Division 1 (h/c 14 & under), Paul Golder (9) scored an excellent gross 80 (the best of the day) for nett 71, some 6 shots ahead of anyone else in this division! In Division 2 (h/c 15 & above), David Wilson (15) shot the best score of the day, being a nett 73 to win by just 1 shot. Let's hope for better conditions next month!
11-JAN 2012 - JANUARY MIDWEEK MEDAL
The first Midweek Medal of the new year attracted a small field of only 29 players. Again unusually excellent weather condition were the order of the day and it was Colin Lloyd (15 h/c) who won with a nett 70.
08-JAN-2012 - WORTHINGTON'S ORIGINAL
Our second team competition of 2012 was a Men's 4-ball team stableford event. 20 teams took part and scoring was based upon the best two scores each hole but with bonus scores if the best two equalled or bettered the previous hole! Andrew Gooch, Paul Greengrass, Tim Burrows & Peter Bennett scored a total of 111 points to win the competition, just one point ahead of two other teams - Les Royal, Paul Golder, Chris Lovett & Lewis Daniels and Ian Gray, Alan Green, Jonathan Barnard & Paul Stevens.
01-JAN-2012 - MILLENNIUM CUP
Sunday, 1st January saw our first competition of 2012. The Millennium Cup is a very popular annual texas scramble, open to all members, and this year was no exception with 24 teams (over 90 players) taking part. A mild New Year’s Day and a course in excellent condition meant the golf was always going to be competitive and the final results were very close. In 3rd place, with a nett score of 59.5 were Justin Warr, Paul Savage, Allan Thompson and Chris Ingram. In 2nd place, and just losing out on count-back, were Brenda Mace, Amy Taylor, Chris Mace and Tim Sims. The winners of the first trophy of 2012, with an excellent nett score of 58.6, were Neil Bradford, Callum Bradford, Mike Lloyd and Kevin Harrison - well done!
